Pro Bono in the Big City
I had the amazing opportunity to attend a Benefit on Tuesday evening. I was surrounded by practitioners from both the non-profit and for-profit sectors from around the city, along with benefactors and survivors of domestic violence who had been helped by Sanctuary. I was impressed that the firm prioritized the support of organizations focused on assisting underserved communities in New York, a city that I love and have adopted as my home.
Weil’s commitment to pro bono is easy to recognize. In our third week with the firm, we were given an introduction to the extensive options we have to get involved, both with partnerships already in existence, or with the option to pitch ideas for new pro bono efforts. Weil’s Pro Bono Counsel is committed to helping us find causes over the course of our summer, and as we advance in our legal careers. And the firm expects that once we start, we take on pro bono work as part of our practice.
I have already found my cause this summer. One of the many perks of our time as a summer associate at Weil has been the option to spend two of our 12 weeks as an extern at an organization of our choice. And the best part is that after my two weeks, I will still have numerous opportunities to continue to support organizations that I care about at a firm that understands the importance of giving back.
