Commitment to Mentorship

NEW YORK – The feeling of starting work in a new environment can be a daunting one. Luckily, the summer program at Weil quickly eases any such anxieties by rapidly immersing you into an exciting, fast-paced environment where you are given the opportunity to do substantive work right away.

On my first day in the Corporate Department, my assignment coordinator asked me for two practice areas in which I wanted to work, and by the next morning, he had arranged assignments for me with both of them. Upon joining the deal teams, I learned that the associates and partners were willing to entrust me with the same work that a junior associate would receive. Of course, all the work summers do is supervised closely by associates and partners, still this show of faith really meant a lot. Within the first two weeks, I have had the opportunity to sit in on conference calls with clients, draft and mark up deal documents, and research complex legal issues.

While working with the attorneys, I was amazed by how willing everyone was to take the time to mentor me. Regardless of the task at hand, the associates and partners on the team would make sure that I understood what was going on every step of the way. Overall, these first two weeks have shown me just how serious Weil is about fostering the growth of their summer associates and making us feel like valuable members of the Firm.
