Open Doors
Throughout the first week of the summer program, my fellow summer associates and I heard the phrase “My door is always open” from a countless number of attorneys, a countless number of times. I quickly came to realize that sentiment was anything but hollow and that it would make all of the difference in the world in my summer experience. When I received my first work assignment, I was both excited and nervous. Obviously, it is fantastic to have the opportunity to begin to dip your toes into different practice areas in substantive ways. Law in Real Life
I will never forget the butterflies in my stomach when my Civil Procedure professor called my name on the first day of law school. Beginning with that initial, nerve-wracking cold call 1L year, law students are being trained to become attorneys. There will be countless cases read and outlines created during law school (not to mention numerous more cold calls), but the end goal, for many, is to practice the subject matter our professors teach. Weil’s Commitment to Pro Bono Exemplified in the Summer Program
So far during my summer experience, I’ve had the opportunity to work on many different matters– all extremely interesting. But the matter I’m the most excited about is working on a pro bono case that has the potential to set precedent under New York law. Giving back to the community is really important to me, so it’s amazing to be at a firm that not only allows pro bono opportunities, but truly encourages them.
